Lady M - Deeply in love with the green tea mille crepe!

Having high tea is always such a blissful affair, especially when something 'green tea' is on the menu. Yes! I finally tried the signature green tea mille crepe after eyeing it for quite a long time. It was love at first taste and my friend couldn't agree more. Layers of thin crepe spread with green tea flavored cream, stacked vertically upwards and forming the lovely structure of the 'cake'. Soft, creamy and yet not overpowered by the bitterness of the green tea, many people would easily be seduced by a single slice. I would go crazy with joy if I had the whole cake by myself!

The red velvet cake took me by surprise and I did not expect it to taste so yummy! The chocolate sponge was coarse, not exactly dense but not dry while the sour cream cheese frosting was extremely rich! The sourness balanced the sweetness and the combination was simple yet super filling.

Last but not least, we tried the strawberry shortcake. The overwhelming amount of cream and its collapsing state did not impress us at all. The plain sponge was not exactly fluffy and the cream kept forcing itself out every time our fork poked into the cake. It still tasted decent but just too messy.
I seriously don't get one point - Why other people can place their cake in front of them for over half an hour while ours disappeared into our stomach within minutes? #gluttons

Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe - Might be back next time...

Once again my pictures have been piling up due to my frequent cafe visits for the past 2 weeks. I have been
deprived of desserts ever since I started working in the culinary field and I turned to buying bubble milk tea to satisfy my sugar cravings. #Backtoarmydays when I had a large size cup of bubble milk tea every weekend when I booked out! Sugar addiction really drains my money. Anyway, I had some desserts with my friend along Hougang, a neighborhood cafe!

I sort of randomly picked 3 different cakes to share with my friend and his little daughter since the all the cakes looked rather mundane to me. The white chocolate brownie arrived with a scope of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with butterscotch sauce. Somehow the texture of the brownie was rather dense and similar to kueh bingka ubi (a Malay kueh made from tapioca), only without the chewy element. The white chocolate sweetness could be felt and thankfully the ice cream neutralized it from being overly sweet.

My friend's daughter wanted the oreo chocolate cheesecake which I guessed was a standard choice for kids (because of the oreo). A double layer cake with a straightforward taste which I interpreted as being flat.

Last but not least, I tried the chocolate cake which I felt rather ordinary too. The chocolate was not as rich and sinful as I hoped it would be. Despite not enjoying myself, I must applaud that their cakes were heading towards the inventive direction and the staffs were really friendly and willing to describe their cakes to me.
I heard from a friend that their smoked saw dust (panna cotta) and waffle with ice cream were their signatures. Maybe I had made a wrong choice of desserts...

Maison Kaiser - A filling high tea set

It was a rather random choice that day as I picked Maison Kaiser for high tea with my mum. Being
tempted by a couple of other tables who had ordered the 3-tier high tea set for 2, I decided to go for the
similar set as well. I am a typical follow-the-crowd person indeed! When the 3-tier stand arrived with 3
large plates of food, it basically occupied most of the table space and it was so annoying to eat with such
limited table space. (See from the picture what I meant?)

The set came with a pot of tea of our choice and we picked the Lemongrass and Verbena.
(Free refill of hot water available but reusing the same tea bag.) I really disliked the cup design,
as with such large surface area, the tea turned cold really fast unknowingly.

We started off with the sausage quiche (quiche of the day) and we enjoyed it thoroughly! (My personal
favourite from the entire set.) The savoury quiche had a somewhat firm eggy custard (not watery) with not-
so-salty sausage chunks. The taste was well balanced and it was so addictive, especially for a fan of
savoury food like me. The smoked salmon side and salad were refreshing and gave the savoury part a
different texture.

The desserts were sweetness overload to us, especially the eclair and the chocolate chip cookies. The icing
coated eclair was filled with vanilla flavoured ; custard-like cream, thick and sticky. I did not manage to
finish my piece of sugar-high cookie though. I loved the moist green tea cake with cream as well as the
large slice of mixed berries cream cake. Eat it early or you would witness the meltdown of the gelatin set
mixed berries compote (top layer).

Last was not least, these assorted open faced sandwiches were decent and fulfilled their duty in filling us up
quite a bit. With such a filling high tea session, my mum and I probably had a bit of problems having dinner
at a standard 6+ timing that day.

Secret Recipe Cakes - Take-away from JB

I missed out posting some Secret Recipe Cakes which I 'smuggled' (brought) back to Singapore when I
visited Johor Bahru City Square some time back. No harm bringing back some cakes for the next day's
breakfast right? Durian Cake with alternating layers of plain sponge and durian flavored 'paste'. I guessed
one of the trademark of Secret Recipe Cakes would be the excessive amount of cream (filling or coating).
My other JB posts can be found here (Sushi King), here (KSL City Street Food) and here (Bear Paw Cafe)!

I bought this durian cheesecake for my mum since she has always been a fan of durian. I should have at
least taken a bite so that I could comment on it. Anyway, my mum ate it up without any complains or
comments.

Cake Spade - Light but still heavy

I made a trip to Cake Spade after reading about their highly raved strawberry tofu cheesecake from other
food blogs. As I arrived an hour later than my other 2 friends, they had already finished their desserts. (So
no pictures of their Red Velvet Cheesecake and Hummingbird Cake.) As their Strawberry Tofu
Cheesecake was not available that day,
I opted for its almost similar variation which was the Peach Tofu
Cheesecake with a digestive base. Served on a tart pan, I stared at the wobbly layer of neon orange jelly
that encased a couple of peach slices and went 'Cool'!
Maybe my taste buds failed me that day as the jelly
tasted like mandarin orange flavor. I dug into the a-bit-shiny tofu textured cheesecake, claimed to have no
actual tofu added and I really loved it! The fact that I ate both the jelly and cheesecake elements
separately, also unknowingly proofed that they were great on its own. Another interesting fact was that
despite feeling 'light' during the eating process, the cheesecake was actually really filling. It was still
cheesecake after all!

Rive Gauche Patisserie - X'mas Potluck 2013 at Vivocity Skypark

Let me clear up my 2013 X'mas post before updating the rest......of the 2013 posts still. Despite enjoying
my school holidays right now, my posts are still lagging behind! By the way, 'Noel' on that chocolate
logcake is French for Merry Christmas as none of us is called Noel. Just a typical chocolate sponge spread
with chocolate cream, rolled up into a log and coated with slightly gooey chocolate ganache. My friend
bought it just for 'yi shi' (symbolic) only as Christmas always comes with a log cake right? Even if it was
just a mini one.

Another cake we shared was the Cheesecake crumbles which came in a rounded looking bowl. Nothing
impressive to me as it was just creamy vanilla-tasting cheesecake mousse sprinkled with crumbles on top.
Maybe after being exposed to air for too long, the crumbles were kind of moist.

The food that my friends and I brought for our potluck picnic at Vivocity Skypark. It was quite enjoyable
as we spend our entire evening till nightfall over there, chatting and making a lot of noise, especially
laughter. The food were dam filling!

A group shot before ending this post! Too dark to capture any good shots already...

12 Cupcakes - Just another 3 of it

YAY! 3 more cupcakes tried from the variety of 12! Mocha, Cookies and Cream and Strawberry
Chocolate. Typical girls would definitely go crazy over these lovely cupcakes. Although I felt the pinch
over the price, I felt that the ingredients used were of decent to good quality. The flavoured cupcake bases
were of constant denseness and richness and a generous dose of flavour infused cream was piped neatly
on each of them. I was quite thankful that the colours were not too artificially vibrant as compared to other
outlets which could have turn me off easily. Simple designs are usually alright for me as long as quality is there.

Another shot of the trio of cupcakes! Luckily the buttercream did not smudge too
badly yet!
