Maccha House 抹茶館 - If there is such a house, I would want to live in it

Being a hard core Matcha fan myself, needless to say, Maccha House naturally attracted my attention and
automatically registered in my 'must try' list. The name Maccha House made me fantasize a house of
entirely green/brown furnishing, scented with the aroma of matcha, decorated zen style with tons of matcha
food products! Before my imagination could get any wilder, here's a picture of my friend's Matcha and
Vanilla soft serve cone. (He already started licking his bi-coloured tower before I could snap a decent

shot.) Although the matcha taste was intense, the price was a bit unfriendly to his wallet. 

As for me, I decided to try something unique and ended up picking Ice Matcha with brown
sugar syrup. I was quite shocked upon receiving my tall glass with a mess of cream that has

such a horrible texture and looking split. After stirring the cream for a brief moment, I took
a sip and immediately fell in love with my drink! A strong intensity with bitterness not too
unbearable for my taste buds. (My resistance to Matcha's bitterness could be a little high
though.) The brown sugar syrup only helped to sweeten the drink a little and imparting a
bit of malt candy flavor. I tried slowing down my drinking pace but to no avail and in no
time, the glass was empty with me trying to suck every last drop of the drink with my
straw. I would definitely be back for more in future!

Hachifukumaru - In love with Burnt Garlic Oil

How rare it was for me to not decide on where to eat and just go along with my friend's decision, hoping
that the restaurant he was leading me to would be a worthwhile one. We ended up at Hachifukumaru that
was located at Orchard Point which I never knew existed due to it being hidden at a corner. Both my
friend and I ordered the Chashu-men with the kind-of-new burnt garlic oil! I have already started
imagining the flavorful combination of it with the chicken broth. As we waited rather impatiently with our
empty stomachs kept on growling, we tried both the black oil and the red oil. The black was quite salty
and tasted like soy sauce while the red gave a rather fiery sensation. Finally, the wait had ended and a
piping bowl of ramen was placed in front of us!

Grabbing the spoon and savouring a huge mouthful of broth was the very first thing I did. A burst of flavor
hit my palate, with the intense burnt garlic oil already infused with the broth. We both ate in silence
throughout our meal, with only the inconsistent slurping sound being heard. Yes, I admit that I can be
rather uncivilise while eating something really fulfilling or when I am hungry. Besides the single piece of
'decorative' Japanese fish cake, those slices of semi-submerged pork were huge! Too bad they were all so
lean, a bit tough and too deprived of some fats. Healthier choice seekers, specially for you guys.

Ippudo - An hour wait, 20 mins indulge

It was time for another group gathering with my polytechnic mates! As 2 of the girls were not in favour of
having a buffet (excuse was not worth as they could not eat much), we ended up picking Ippudo at

Mandarin Gallery. The same group of us having tried Ippudo X Tao (located at UE Square) before, had
on-and-off cravings which lured us back. The umami broth of special blend that made me drink till the very
last drop as well as the superb melt-in-the-mouth fatty pork belly was the impression I still retained from
my previous visits. Besides being as noisy as a market place, we were actually quite disappointed due to
an hour long wait just to be seated. While waiting, we were also promised that in 15 mins time, we would
have a private room but no...... Anyway, the long wait actually had our noodles ended up slightly soggy
and softer than expected but the taste was still quite there.

Our group shot before we started slurping all that ramen and gulping the broth. Would we be back again? I
don't think it would be anytime soon due to such a long wait and the standard was worse than the outlet at
UE Square.

Fruit Paradise - Yummy tart, Yummy cream

Let me start this post with some criticises before compliments. This picture was taken right after (merely
seconds) my mum's Banana Brownie was presented on the table. Obviously I went 'what-the-heck' upon
seeing such a mess and was instantly disgusted by the looks of it. The banana brownie was still rather
warm and was this melting scene supposed to be part of the dramatic entrance? Couldn't they just
place the soft serve beside instead of on top? Anyway, the distorted lump of whipped cream dangling in
between the banana and the brownie was also an eyesore, looking so textured and out of place. If you like
dense chocolaty brownie on tart with semi melted vanilla soft serve, you would definitely want to order

As for me, I decided to go for the Mix Fruit Tart which the waitress mentioned to me was a popular
choice. I honestly did not believe her but still went for it as I did not want to stress over such an issue. As
this was my second visit to Fruit Paradise, the Mix Fruit Tart arrived in its usual grandeur, maybe due to
the height of stacking fruits with different colours and textures. I don't really care much about the fruits but
was impressed with the velvety cream and tart shell. To me, the tart was close to perfection where it had a
slight biting-resistance but still fork-breakable, if you would understand what I meant.

3 Inch Sin - Sinful Lava Cake

After the Japanese dinner at Rakuzen, I had dessert with my mum at 3 Inch Sin which I had seen many
online media raving about its lava cakes. I was spoilt for choice when I saw the huge range of different
flavored lava cakes displayed right before my eyes, landing me in dilemma. After much consideration, I
ended up choosing the original flavor since it was recommended as being a popular choice. Luckily I did a
wise choice by adding a scope of vanilla ice cream to compliment my lava cake. Not that the ice cream
was extraordinary in any way but it helped dratically by balancing the richness and gooeynes of the
Valrhona chocolate. As I ate this sinful dessert in guilt, I was at the same time having phobia of a bad acne
outbreak that would occur to me in less than 3 days time (my chocolate intolerance). I kept telling my
Mum to help me eat more portion of the cake too! 

What's a lava cake without tempting you guys with the molten core after breaking through the chocolate
cakey exterior? Watching the luscious flow of Valrhona chocolate oozing out!

Rakuzen - A Jap dinner with mum!

My mum and I were already starving and I was on a verge of having stomach cramps due to excessive
hunger. It was already 7+ and we still have not eaten our dinner! I seriously disliked the feeling of
starvation but I still led my mum all the way from Suntec City to Millenia Walk, believing that there would
be yummy food existing around that area. I was right! There were quite a couple of restaurants in there as
well as hidden around the bends. My mums choose Rakuzen, which I had in mind since I had cravings for
Japanese food. The place was rather quiet and dimly lit, so I felt my eyelids getting heavier every moment.
I shake myself up, trying to enjoy the peaceful ambiance and the beautifully designed furnishing around

My mum ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen which looked like an ordinary bowl of ramen. (Instant
noodles would be more liked it.) How do you actually present a bowl of ramen to look
more appetizing? Tough one I supposed. Despite the non-attractive presentation, the soup
base was really superb! It was soothingly light and the umami flavor was irresistible. My mum
really enjoyed her ramen but the greatest disappointment was that the Tonkotsu Ramen here
had no Tonkotsu in it. Therefore, it was basically a plain bowl with only some vegetables to
go with!   

As for me, I had a craving for sashimi but wanted something more filling. So I ended up 
picking the Sakura Chirashi Don - Mixed sashimi over japanese vinegared rice. Pardon
me as I really could not tell if the sashimi were fresh all because I did not get a satisfying
feel after consuming them. All I knew was that there were no traces of any fishy smell
emitting from them. The prickled ginger slices were unusually good with mild pungentness.
I guessed the pink sugar I left behind was sakura sugar as I did not like additional artificial
sweetness in my don. On the whole, the price tag was something I should consider before
stepping into any Japanese restaurant, which my mum would be oblivious to.

12 Cupcakes - Just another 3 of it

YAY! 3 more cupcakes tried from the variety of 12! Mocha, Cookies and Cream and Strawberry
Chocolate. Typical girls would definitely go crazy over these lovely cupcakes. Although I felt the pinch
over the price, I felt that the ingredients used were of decent to good quality. The flavoured cupcake bases
were of constant denseness and richness and a generous dose of flavour infused cream was piped neatly
on each of them. I was quite thankful that the colours were not too artificially vibrant as compared to other
outlets which could have turn me off easily. Simple designs are usually alright for me as long as quality is there.

Another shot of the trio of cupcakes! Luckily the buttercream did not smudge too
badly yet!
